He attended medical school at Albert Einstein in New York City and graduated with distinction for research in oncology. Dr. Shalmi relocated to Boston in 1989 to pursue the balance of his medical education. He completed his internship in surgery through Tufts University School of Medicine and went on to Harvard University School of Medicine to complete his residency in anesthesia and critical care. He became interested in pain management during his residency and this became the focus of his study during the latter portion of his training. He remained at Harvard for fellowship training in Pain Management and completed this in 1997. Dr. Shalmi has trained and studied with some of the world’s most renowned specialists in the field of Pain Medicine. He relocated to Long Island in 1999 where he began “New York Pain Consultants”, a state-of-the-art multidisciplinary group serving Long Islanders in the full spectrum of pain problems. He is currently the Chairman of the Division of Pain Management at Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip. He is board certified in Anesthesia and Pain Management. He is published and is a member of numerous professional organizations.
